2004 Precedent Carryall 2 jerks radically, especially in reverse, when you press
the accelerator pedal and taking off. Not so bad in forward.
Any info on what we need to do to smooth it out?
Thanks,

Does the engine rev up before it jerks? If it does the first thing to check would be the clutches.
Does it stop jerking once you get rolling?

It does not rev up, engine speed only increases as accelerator pedal
is pressed down, then suddenly it jerks. After that it runs very smoothly in forward and reverse.
Also, the problem seems to be less after the cart has been used awhile.
Thanks for your help,

Sorry for not replying again on this. You say the engine RPM doesn't go up but the speed increases as the throttle is pressed. Are you saying the cart is already moving when it jerks? Or from a dead stop the RPM increases then jerks? I would look at the throttle cable adjustment or possibly a clutch problem.

Jack it up so the rear wheels are off the ground, and block it. Remove the seat. Push down on the accelerator with a piece of wood or something to get the engine running, and see if the clutches are opening and closing SMOOTHLY upon acceleration.

I suspect your engine is reving up, and when the engine RPMs get to a certain level, the drive clutch all of a sudden closes...Clutch Could be in need of a good overhaul, or replacement as the rollers and/or cams get worn and stick.
