Yamaha G16 Golf Cart Engine Keeps Running

I ran over a branch with my Yamaha G16 golf cart that got caught in the area of the governor. I removed the branch. Now when I take my foot off the gas pedal the cart slows down but doesn't stop and the engine keeps running. I turned off the ignition switch and it keeps going. Tried cutting off the gas with pliers (while precariously steering, holding up the seat and fumbling with my leatherman tool) Kept running for 5 minutes before I gave that up. Finally yanked the spark plug wire to stop it. What might I have damaged and how do I fix it.

Thanks for any reply

I am looking at the G16A wiring diagram and it has an engine stop relay (see attached picture with red circles). My good guess is your tree branch may have pulled one of the connectors or broke one of the wires going to the stop relay. It could also be a wire off or broken from the switch near the pedal.

I'll check The engine stop relay right away. Thank you!
I have checked the peddle and it's fine if a little dirty. (cleaned it out).
